When a patient is injured and requires an orthopedic cast, a traditional cast is applied with cotton or polyester synthetic padding. The problem is the padding and stockinette are not waterproof. They also absorb the sweat from the patient's body. Fiberglass casting tape is already a waterproof material, so why not put waterproof cast padding underneath the cast to make it a completely waterproof cast.

Used in place of traditional cotton padding underneath a fiberglass cast, GORE PROCEL/ AquaCast Waterproof Cast Liner allows you to swim, shower, bathe and do anything that may cause your cast to get wet.
When a fiberglass cast padded with Gore Procel Waterproof Cast Liner
gets wet, most of the water drains quickly out of the ends of your
cast. The remaining moisture is warmed by body heat, becomes a vapor and
passes through the waterproof Cast Liner and fiberglass casting tape.
