Traumatized

Hello,
A little background….I broke & displaced the distal radius bone on my left wrist 2/16…. Went to urgent care and they did a rush job on a splint with plaster….Saw an orthopedic surgeon on 2/22/22. Option 1 was surgery which I opted out of due to my age and it not being my dominant hand, as well as, the percentage of returning to full movement was only increased by 10%…. Option 2 was a cast …Due to me having severe anxiety and claustrophobia he originally placed a fiberglass cast & added what he called “pressure release valves.” Basically sawed both sides of the cast once cured so that if I felt Uncomfortable I could Press for comfort and loosening. It was fine until week 2 when my hand and fingers started having pins and needles consistently. He took that cast off on week 2 and replaced it with a new fiberglass cast which was extremely uncomfortably tight and immediately caused numbness & again pins/needles. He then had his assistant remove that one and this is when the Exo cast came into play…..
He had his assistant handle the adjustments to my Exo cast, which I could clearly see she was not trained in doing, & sadly after a lot of research I now learn the Exo’s are for NONDISPLACED. Unfortunately my orthopedic surgeon did not give me any verbal instructions nor send me home with any written instructions on do’s and don’t’s for my Exo cast! This has been such a nightmare from Day 1 however this Exo is heavy, not fitted properly, has caused me to lose hours and hours of sleep, and basically feel bed ridden due the pain and fear of what may happen if I move My wrist or arm in the wrong way…..there sometimes feels as if metal is poking me inside the cast and it just never feels comfortable unless I loosen It completely which is not helping me to heal. So with all this said, I do Think these are much better then fiberglass however make sure you are seeing a Dr who’s staff us trained to place these on your body.
