What Does a Cast Shoe Do?

• Protects the cast: Prevents the bottom of the cast from cracking, crumbling, or getting wet on wet floors
• Improves stability: Provides a flat, non-slip sole for safer walking
• Reduces wear: Extends the life of the cast by absorbing ground impact
• Converts to walking cast: A cast heel can be added to any short leg cast to allow weight-bearing

Who Needs a Cast Shoe?

• Patients in a short leg fiberglass or plaster cast who are cleared for weight-bearing
• Anyone whose provider has prescribed a walking cast
• Patients recovering from foot, ankle, or lower leg fractures or surgery

Cast Shoe vs. Medical Boot

• Cast shoe: Worn over an existing fiberglass or plaster cast. Protects and stabilizes the cast for walking.
