AquaCast Waterproof Long Arm Cast Kit — Swim Cast Materials for Above-Elbow Fractures
The AquaCast Waterproof Long Arm Cast Kit contains everything needed to create a true waterproof above-elbow cast — AquaCast pillow-type waterproof padding, Saw Stop protective strip, and fiberglass casting tape. Bring this kit to your clinician for professional application. Once applied, patients can shower, bathe, and swim throughout their recovery without covering or removing the cast.
AquaCast is the successor to the original Gore Procel waterproof cast liner. Water flows through the open-cell pillow padding and drains freely from both ends, preventing the moisture buildup that causes traditional cotton-padded casts to soften, develop odor, and break down over time.

Why Choose AquaCast for a Waterproof Long Arm Cast?
True waterproof cast — not a removable cover. Water flows through and drains freely; no moisture trapped against skin
Soft pillow-type padding — cushioned feel for patient comfort from hand to upper arm throughout the healing period
Swim, shower & bathe freely — patients maintain normal hygiene and activity levels during recovery
Compatible with standard fiberglass tape — no proprietary casting system required
Pediatric through adult sizing — kits sized for every patient from infant to large adult
Successor to Gore Procel — same trusted waterproof cast liner technology, now under the AquaCast brand
Indications — Who Needs a Waterproof Long Arm Cast?
Stable forearm fractures (radius and ulna shaft fractures)
Elbow fractures and distal humerus injuries
Supracondylar fractures in pediatric patients
Post-surgical immobilization of the elbow or forearm
Active patients — children, swimmers, athletes — who cannot avoid water exposure during recovery
How to Apply AquaCast Waterproof Long Arm Cast
Apply AquaCast Padding — wrap the pillow-type waterproof padding smoothly from the hand up to the upper arm, overlapping each layer by 50%
Apply Saw Stop Strip — position the protective strip along both cast removal lines (medial and lateral) for safe removal later
Apply Fiberglass Cast Tape — wrap over the AquaCast padding to complete the waterproof long arm cast
Must be applied by a trained orthopedic technician, physician, or casting staff. Bring this kit to your clinical appointment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I swim and shower with an AquaCast waterproof long arm cast?
Yes. AquaCast uses open-cell pillow-type padding that allows water to flow through and drain freely from both ends of the cast. Unlike traditional cotton-padded arm casts that trap moisture and break down when wet, AquaCast is designed for full water exposure — swimming, showering, and bathing are all permitted once the cast is properly applied by a clinician.
What is the difference between a long arm cast and a short arm cast?
A short arm cast extends from the hand to just below the elbow, immobilizing the wrist and forearm. A long arm cast extends from the hand to the upper arm, also immobilizing the elbow. Long arm casts are used for fractures that require elbow immobilization, such as forearm shaft fractures, elbow fractures, and supracondylar fractures in children.
Is AquaCast the same as Gore Procel?
Yes — AquaCast is the direct successor to the original Gore Procel waterproof cast liner. BSN Essity acquired the technology and continues to manufacture it under the AquaCast brand. The pillow-type padding design and waterproofing mechanism are the same trusted system used in orthopedic clinics for decades.
Does my doctor apply the AquaCast kit, or can I do it myself?
AquaCast must be applied by a trained orthopedic technician, physician, or casting staff. The kit is purchased by the patient and brought to the clinical appointment, where the clinician applies the padding, Saw Stop strip, and fiberglass tape. Self-application is not recommended and may result in improper fit or injury.
Is this kit FSA or HSA eligible?
AquaCast waterproof cast kits are generally FSA/HSA eligible when prescribed by a physician. Eligibility depends on your specific plan administrator — we recommend confirming with your FSA/HSA provider before purchase. OrthoTape is an authorized distributor of AquaCast (BSN Essity) products.

This is a top of the line boot. I have used another brand given to me by my doctors office that that had a lip on the outside not padded which created skin breakdown on the out side of my foot. The form fit design does not have a lip and has more rubber padding at the sides than the competitor. I showed the difference in engineering design to my doctor and highly recommended the form fit boot. Please
Note they were the same price.
So, I finally got the opportunity to use the casting tape today. I want to preface this by saying I'm not a professional caster.
The tape seemed to dry out a bit too fast (it was a bit of a hot day, but I used cold tap water. As a result, the layers didn't seem to mold together very well. However, that may have more to do with MY lack of experience.
The one complaint is that the hot pink had some light (almost white) spots in the roll, and a strange waffle pattern in the ends of the rolls.
Hi Alan, thanks for sharing your experience. The white spots are caused by the dry gloves touching the casting tape. Usually when I do a final layer, I do not touch the tape at all except for the sides, so I get the perfect color finish. As for the honeycomb at the end. In our next batch we are changing that center so it does not do that. Usally I cut it off with scissors before that. As for drying out, that has to do with how fast you are at casting. Since you said you were new at it, that can happen as you have to work quickly with the tape before it hardens. You will get better with more practice. Also make sure your bucket is a new bucket, a household cleaning bucket can have cleaning residue which can cause issue with the polyurethane resin.
I have used in the past and it is great! Best advice is that it stretches more so get a size smaller than you think. But it’s a lifesaver in pediatrics!!
Hi Ericca, thank you for your wonderful feedback! If you like Delta Dry, try our OrthoH2O we are happy to send some samples to you. It is a much easier one piece application. It does not tear easy like Delta Dry and it is much more cost effective. See it here or search OrthoH2O on our site: https://orthotape.com/collections/orthoh2o-waterproof-cast
