Description
Delta Dry Waterproof Long Arm Cast Kit — Swim Cast Materials for Above-Elbow Fractures
The Delta Dry Waterproof Long Arm Cast Kit contains everything needed to create a true waterproof above-elbow cast using the Delta Dry two-piece system — a water-resistant Delta stockinette liner, Delta Dry waterproof padding rolls, and fiberglass casting tape. Bring this kit to your clinician for professional application. Once applied, patients can shower, bathe, and swim throughout their recovery without covering or removing the cast.
Delta Dry by BSN Essity uses a two-component approach: a water-resistant stockinette is applied first, followed by Delta Dry waterproof padding rolls, then fiberglass tape. Water passes through the system and drains freely from both ends, preventing the moisture buildup that causes traditional cotton-padded casts to soften, develop odor, and break down.

Why Choose Delta Dry for a Waterproof Long Arm Cast?
True waterproof cast — not a removable cover. Water passes through and drains freely; no moisture trapped against skin
Two-piece system — water-resistant Delta stockinette + Delta Dry padding rolls for a familiar wrap-and-pad workflow
Swim, shower & bathe freely — patients maintain normal hygiene and activity levels during recovery
Compatible with standard fiberglass tape — no proprietary casting system required
Pediatric through adult sizing — kits sized for every patient from infant to large adult
BSN Essity brand — same manufacturer as AquaCast; trusted by orthopedic clinics worldwide
Delta Dry vs. AquaCast — Which Waterproof Cast System Is Right?
How does Delta Dry differ from AquaCast?
Both are BSN Essity waterproof cast systems, but they use different padding designs. Delta Dry uses a two-piece approach: a water-resistant stockinette liner applied first, followed by Delta Dry padding rolls. AquaCast uses a single pillow-type open-cell padding that replaces traditional cotton padding entirely. Both allow full water exposure — swimming, showering, and bathing. The choice is typically made by the clinician based on their preferred workflow and the patient’s anatomy.
Indications — Who Needs a Waterproof Long Arm Cast?
Stable forearm fractures (radius and ulna shaft fractures)
Elbow fractures and distal humerus injuries
Supracondylar fractures in pediatric patients
Post-surgical immobilization of the elbow or forearm
Active patients — children, swimmers, athletes — who cannot avoid water exposure during recovery
How to Apply Delta Dry Waterproof Long Arm Cast
Apply Delta Stocking — slip the water-resistant stockinette over the hand and up to the upper arm
Apply Delta Dry Padding — wrap the waterproof padding rolls smoothly from hand to upper arm, overlapping each layer by 50%
Apply Fiberglass Cast Tape — wrap over the Delta Dry padding to complete the waterproof long arm cast
Must be applied by a trained orthopedic technician, physician, or casting staff. Bring this kit to your clinical appointment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I swim and shower with a Delta Dry waterproof long arm cast?
Yes. Delta Dry uses a water-resistant stockinette and waterproof padding rolls that allow water to pass through and drain freely from both ends of the cast. Unlike traditional cotton-padded arm casts that trap moisture and break down when wet, Delta Dry is designed for full water exposure — swimming, showering, and bathing are all permitted once the cast is properly applied by a clinician.
What is included in the Delta Dry Long Arm Cast Kit?
Each kit includes Delta Dry waterproof padding rolls, a Delta water-resistant stockinette, and fiberglass casting tape — all sized for the selected patient size. The clinician applies all components at the appointment. No additional padding or stockinette is needed.
What is the difference between a long arm cast and a short arm cast?
A short arm cast extends from the hand to just below the elbow, immobilizing the wrist and forearm. A long arm cast extends from the hand to the upper arm, also immobilizing the elbow. Long arm casts are used for fractures that require elbow immobilization, such as forearm shaft fractures, elbow fractures, and supracondylar fractures in children.
Does my doctor apply the Delta Dry kit, or can I do it myself?
Delta Dry must be applied by a trained orthopedic technician, physician, or casting staff. The kit is purchased by the patient and brought to the clinical appointment, where the clinician applies the stockinette, padding, and fiberglass tape. Self-application is not recommended and may result in improper fit or injury.
Is this kit FSA or HSA eligible?
Delta Dry waterproof cast kits are generally FSA/HSA eligible when prescribed by a physician. Eligibility depends on your specific plan administrator — we recommend confirming with your FSA/HSA provider before purchase. OrthoTape is an authorized distributor of Delta Dry (BSN Essity) products.

The product is exceptional. My 8 year old son was able to submerge himself in the water. We'd had to cancel his sports camps for the summer due to his broken arm. The swim cast saved our summer. We still got to enjoy both river and lake activities. The cast did not cause any itching. I believe that sweat was washed away while my son was swimming. For this reason, alone, I think all casts should use this technology.I was disappointed, however, that customer service did not help to get my next day air shipping fee reversed. I had to drive 70 miles each way to the nearest UPS store to pick up our package in time for the Orthopedic appointment, 3 business days after the order was made. The shipping fee was nearly 3 times more than the padding kit. Also, the doctor recommended that I order two more kits to be used over six weeks. My son healed after only four weeks leaving me with an extra kit. I'd like to return the extra kit but, return policy lists only damaged or incorrect orders.

Mr.
I haven't had other casts before, so I have nothing to compare. I was unwilling to give up my daily cardio or subject my colleagues to a stinky cotton/plaster cast, so decided on this. I wash it in plain water every other day, and have had no odor or discomfort problems. The instructions here that a cast will fully dry in 20-30 minutes are... highly optimistic. I'd say it takes about 90 minutes, and was warned by my ortho tech to make sure I did get it dry as quickly as possible to prevent soggy skin/maceration issues. He also does not think the thumb stockinette included in the adult male kit is large enough for an average adult male thumb, so he uses the arm from an infant or child kit. On the balance, I've been super happy with this.
