Professional Equine Hoof Casting Material - 3 Inch Width
Premium fiberglass casting tape for quarter crack repair and hoof wall stabilization. This single roll of 3-inch OrthoHoof casting material is perfect for veterinary practices and farriers treating hoof wall damage, quarter cracks, and structural hoof problems.
🏆 Why OrthoHoof is Different from Traditional Casting Tape
Enhanced Polyurethane Resin Formula
OrthoHoof contains more polyurethane resin compared to traditional casting tape, delivering superior performance specifically engineered for hoof casting applications:
🔗 Stickier Adhesion: Extra resin content creates stronger bonding to the hoof wall for reliable, long-lasting repairs
💪 Superior Strength: Enhanced resin concentration provides exceptional durability to withstand the unique demands of equine hoof movement and weight-bearing
🎯 Optimized for Hooves: Formulated specifically for hoof casting rather than general orthopedic use
This specialized formulation makes OrthoHoof the preferred choice for veterinarians and farriers who demand maximum performance in challenging hoof repair applications.
Why Choose OrthoHoof 3" Casting Tape?
Single Roll Convenience: Perfect for trying the product or occasional use without committing to a full box
Ideal 3-Inch Width: Perfect size for larger hooves, wider coverage areas, and extensive hoof wall applications
Superior Strength: High-tensile fiberglass construction provides exceptional support and durability
Fast Setting: Water-activated polyurethane resin sets in 3-5 minutes for efficient application
Weather Resistant: Withstands moisture, mud, and daily equine activity
Professional Grade: Trusted by veterinarians and certified farriers nationwide
Polyester vs Fiberglass Hoof Cast Comparison
Understanding the differences between polyester and fiberglass casting materials helps you choose the right product for your specific equine hoof repair needs.
Feature
Polyester Hoof Cast (OrthoHoof)
Fiberglass Hoof Cast (OrthoHoof)
Material & Resin
Polyester fabric impregnated with polyurethane resin
Fiberglass fabric impregnated with polyurethane resin
Flexibility/Rigidity
More pliable and flexible. Softer application, but not a soft cast
More rigid application. Provides firmer structural support
Durability
Superior abrasion resistance. Better withstands wear from movement and rough terrain
Tends to be more brittle and may crack at the heels with excessive movement
Recommended Use
Best for active horses:
Horses that move frequently
Horses on hard or rocky ground
Hooves prone to twisting
Horses who may resent heel constriction
Best for restricted movement:
When maximum rigidity is needed
Laminitic horses (early rehab)
Some navicular cases
Horses with minimal movement
💡 Professional Recommendation
OrthoHoof Polyester casting tape is our most popular option due to its superior abrasion resistance and flexibility, making it ideal for the majority of equine hoof repair applications. It performs exceptionally well for active horses and those on challenging terrain. For cases requiring maximum rigidity with minimal movement, fiberglass remains an excellent choice.

How to Apply OrthoHoof Casting Tape
Other OrthoHoof Sizes Available
Choose the right width for your specific application:
Follow these steps for optimal results when applying OrthoHoof casting material:
Preparation: Clean and dry the hoof thoroughly. Remove all debris, dirt, and moisture from the application area. Ensure the hoof wall is completely dry for proper adhesion.
Assessment: Evaluate the crack or damage to determine the number of layers needed. Most applications require 2-4 layers for adequate strength.
Activation: Wearing gloves, immerse the casting tape in clean, room-temperature water for 3-5 seconds until bubbling stops. Gently squeeze out excess water.
Application: Apply the tape with moderate, consistent tension. Overlap each wrap by 50% to ensure maximum strength and coverage. Smooth out any wrinkles or air pockets.
Molding: While the cast is still wet and pliable, shape and smooth it to conform to the natural hoof contours. This is critical for proper fit and function.
Curing: Allow 20-30 minutes for initial set. The cast will reach full strength in 24 hours. Keep the horse in a clean, dry area during initial curing.
Finishing: Once cured, trim any excess material and smooth rough edges with a rasp or file for a professional finish.
⚠️ Professional Tip: Work quickly once the tape is activated. The 3-5 minute working time allows for proper application, but the material begins to set rapidly. Have all supplies ready before activating the tape.

This is an easy product to apply to a horse hoof. It is not slippery like some other polyester brands. The slippery brands do so becsuse it gives the feel of plaster casting for human applications. However, when applying a polyester cast to a horse it important that the material be tactile and not slip out of your hand if the horse moves.

Very happy
I’m very happy with the casting so far. This was my first time casting a horse as a farrier and it was really easy, I did do a lot of research first. He was definitely more comfortable after casting, poor boy needed more support without the incisiveness of nails. Especially being on a two week trim cycle.
After 3 years of aggravation and expensive alternatives, I'm excited to finally find drop foot braces that work well. There is nothing under the soles to wear on, and hurt, my feet and no brace to run up the legs. This inventive alternative is ingenious and inexpensive, especially when compared to other braces. I would only suggest a better outlined set of instructions written and illustrated for your American customers. Signed, Your Advocate
