Foot drop (drop foot) is the inability to lift the front part of the foot due to weakness or paralysis of the dorsiflexor muscles. It is most commonly caused by peroneal nerve injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, or lumbar disc herniation at L4–L5. An ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) compensates for the lost muscle function by holding the foot in a neutral or slightly dorsiflexed position during the swing phase of walking, preventing toe drag and reducing fall risk. The Ossur AFO Dynamic is a carbon fiber brace with a flexible forefoot that stores and returns energy with each step for a more natural gait pattern.

Order the same size as your Ossur AFO Dynamic brace — X-Small, Small, Medium, or Large. The size is printed on the label inside your brace. With daily use, the soft goods — foam padding, Velcro straps, and Velcro dots — typically need replacement approximately once a year. Signs that replacement is needed include straps that no longer hold securely, padding that has compressed or thinned, frayed or stretched straps, or a brace that feels loose even when fully tightened. Replacing worn soft goods restores the fit and function of the brace and is far more cost-effective than replacing the entire carbon fiber shell.
