The Aircast AirSelect Standard Tall by DJO Enovis is a premium pneumatic cast boot and orthopedic walking boot engineered for ankle fractures, severe sprains, Achilles tendon injuries, and post-operative recovery. Whether you need a medical boot for a broken ankle, a fracture boot after surgery, or a walking cast boot for broken foot with maximum ankle support, the AirSelect Standard Tall delivers with pre-inflated aircells, a three-strap closure system, and a rocker bottom sole. For the short low-top version, see the AirSelect Short. For the premium liner upgrade, see the AirSelect Elite Tall.

What this is (and what people call it)

This is a removable CAM boot (Controlled Ankle Motion) — also called an aircast boot, cast boot, fracture boot, medical boot, or walking cast boot for broken foot. The tall high-top design extends above the ankle for maximum immobilization. It fits either the right or left foot — no side selection needed. The AirSelect Standard is Aircast’s clinical-grade tall boot; the AirSelect Elite Tall shares the same shell and sizing but adds a premium liner.

Standard vs. Elite vs. Short — Which do I need?

  • This boot (Standard Tall) — Full-height ankle support, three-strap system, clinical-grade liner. Best boot for broken ankle, ankle fractures, Achilles injuries, and severe sprains.
  • AirSelect Elite Tall — Same shell and sizing as the Standard Tall, upgraded premium liner for enhanced comfort during extended wear.
  • AirSelect Short — Lower profile, best for metatarsal fractures, forefoot injuries, bunionectomy, and broken toe. Less ankle restriction needed.

Clinical Indications (as prescribed)

  • Ankle fractures — boot for broken ankle
  • Severe ankle sprains (Grade 2 and Grade 3)
  • Achilles tendon injuries and post-surgical recovery — surgery boot
  • Metatarsal and foot fractures — boot for fractured foot
  • Post-operative foot and ankle rehabilitation
  • Soft tissue injuries with associated edema

Features & Benefits

Size Chart & Fit Guide

Universal fit — fits left or right foot.

⚠️ Important: These Boots Fit a Size Range — Not a Single Shoe Size

CAM walking boots and cast boots accommodate a range of shoe sizes — the extra room allows for bandaging, swelling, post-surgical dressings, and thick socks common during recovery.

  • Choose the smaller size if swelling is minimal.
  • Choose the larger size if you have significant swelling or thick bandaging.

When in doubt, go up a size.

Size Men’s US Shoe Women’s US Shoe Internal Foot Length Part Number
X-Small < 3 < 3 8.3" (21.0 cm) 01EF-XS
Small 3 – 6 3 – 6 9.3" (23.5 cm) 01EF-S
Medium 6 – 9 6 – 9 10.2" (26.0 cm) 01EF-M
Large 9 – 12 9 – 12 11.2" (28.5 cm) 01EF-L
X-Large > 12 > 12 12.2" (31.0 cm) 01EF-XL

* Internal foot length: measure from your heel to the tip of your longest toe while standing. If your measurement falls between sizes, size up to accommodate swelling or bandaging.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the AirSelect Standard Tall and the AirSelect Elite Tall?

The AirSelect Elite Tall features an upgraded liner with enhanced padding and comfort compared to the Standard Tall. Both models share the same shell dimensions, sizing, and three-strap system — internal foot measurements are identical. If you need the premium liner for extended wear comfort, choose the Elite; if you want the same clinical performance at a lower price point, the Standard Tall is the right choice.

Is this a good boot for a broken ankle?

Yes. The Aircast AirSelect Standard Tall is specifically designed as a boot for broken ankle, ankle fractures, and severe ankle sprains. The tall high-top design provides the ankle immobilization needed for these conditions, while the pre-inflated aircells control swelling and the three-strap system disperses pressure evenly.

How do the aircells work and how do I adjust them?

The AirSelect Standard Tall orthopedic boot features pre-inflated aircells that provide immediate compression right out of the box. Use the bulb pump to add compression as needed — squeeze to inflate, press the valve to release air. Adjust throughout the day as swelling changes — typically more air in the afternoon when swelling peaks, less in the morning.

Does this cast boot fit both left and right feet?

Yes. The Aircast AirSelect Standard Tall is a universal fit design — one medical boot fits either the left or right foot. No side selection is needed at checkout. Place your foot on the footbed with your heel seated at the back and fasten the three straps from bottom to top.

How long will I need to wear this orthopedic boot?

Wear time depends on your injury and your physician’s protocol. Most ankle fractures require 6–8 weeks in a cast boot. Achilles tendon injuries may require 8–12 weeks in a surgery boot. Severe ankle sprains typically resolve in 4–6 weeks. Always follow your surgeon’s or podiatrist’s specific instructions — they will monitor healing with follow-up imaging and advise when it is safe to transition out of the fracture boot.

Can I walk normally in this walking cast boot, and do I need crutches?

The rocker bottom outsole is specifically designed to promote a more natural heel-to-toe gait while wearing this CAM boot. Most patients with stable fractures or moderate injuries can bear weight as tolerated — your doctor will specify your weight-bearing status. Crutches may be recommended initially for pain management or if you are non-weight-bearing. As healing progresses, most patients transition to full weight-bearing in the orthopedic boot before returning to regular footwear.
