This all-in-one fiberglass cast kit gives you everything needed to apply a hard leg cast for a dog or cat. Whether you're dealing with a broken leg of a cat or dog, you can easily make a dog leg cast or a cat leg cast wit this kit.  This kit ships directly to you so you can bring it to your veterinarian or veterinary technician — no waiting on limited clinic supplies, and over 12 color choices your vet's office likely doesn't carry.

Sizes available: Cat, Small Dog, Medium Dog, and Large Dog — each pre-measured with the right quantity of fiberglass, padding, and stockinette for the job.

Application should be performed by a trained veterinary technician. Never apply fiberglass cast tape directly to fur. We sell to anyone over 18; intended for educational use or veterinary technician application.

Cast vs. Splint for Dogs and Cats — What's the Difference?

A cast for a dog or cat fully encircles the limb and is custom-molded using fiberglass — providing rigid, close-fitting immobilization ideal for fractures and sprains below the elbow or stifle. A splint for a dog or cat is a rigid brace applied alongside the limb, often used when swelling is present, secured with tape or gauze rather than full encirclement.

This kit is designed for a hard fiberglass cast.

How to Apply a Fiberglass Cast for a Dog or Cat Leg

  1. Prepare the limb: Sedation or anesthesia is typically used to reduce stress and ensure proper limb alignment. Apply adhesive tape stirrups to cranial/caudal or medial/lateral surfaces.
  2. Apply stockinette: Roll stockinette over the limb distal to proximal, leaving extra length at each end to fold back over cast edges.
  3. Add cast padding: Apply 1–2 layers of cast padding, overlapping ~50%, with extra padding over bony pressure points.
  4. Wrap fiberglass cast tape: Wet the fiberglass roll and wrap distal to proximal, overlapping ~50%, molding over joints in a functional position.
  5. Secure and finish: Fold stockinette and stirrups back over cast edges and tape down. Allow to fully set before weight-bearing.
  6. Monitor daily: Check toes twice daily for warmth, swelling, and discoloration. Keep cast clean and dry. Return to vet every 7–14 days or sooner if issues arise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I put a cast on my dog's leg at home?

This kit provides all the materials needed to apply a fiberglass cast to a dog's leg. Application should be performed by a trained veterinary technician. The kit is designed to be brought to your vet or used by a vet tech in a clinical or home setting.

What is the difference between a cast and a splint for a dog or cat?

A cast fully encircles the limb and is custom-molded using fiberglass or plaster. A splint is a rigid brace applied alongside the limb and secured with tape or gauze — often used when swelling is present. This kit is for a hard fiberglass cast.

What size cast kit do I need for my dog?

Choose Small Dog for dogs under ~20 lbs, Medium Dog for ~20–50 lbs, and Large Dog for dogs over 50 lbs. The Cat size is sized for feline legs. Each size includes the correct quantity of fiberglass, padding, and stockinette.

Is this cast kit good for a dog's broken leg or front leg splint?

Yes. This fiberglass cast kit is suitable for fractures and sprains below the elbow or stifle, including front leg injuries. It provides rigid immobilization to support healing of broken bones or ligament injuries in dogs and cats.

How long does a dog or cat leg cast stay on?

Healing time varies by age and injury severity. Most casts are changed every 7–14 days by a veterinarian. Young animals may heal in a few weeks; older pets may take longer. Always follow your vet's guidance.

What is included in the fiberglass cast kit for dogs and cats?

Each kit includes fiberglass cast tape rolls, cast padding rolls, and stockinette — sized appropriately for Cat, Small Dog, Medium Dog, or Large Dog. Available in 12 color choices.
