Description
Delta Dry Waterproof Short Arm Cast Kit — Swim Cast Materials for Below-Elbow Fractures
The Delta Dry Waterproof Short Arm Cast Kit contains everything needed to create a true waterproof below-elbow cast using the Delta Dry two-piece system — a water-resistant Delta stockinette liner, Delta Dry waterproof padding rolls, and fiberglass casting tape. Bring this kit to your clinician for professional application. Once applied, patients can shower, bathe, and swim throughout their recovery without covering or removing the cast.
Delta Dry by BSN Essity uses a two-component approach: a water-resistant stockinette is applied first, followed by Delta Dry waterproof padding rolls, then fiberglass tape. Water passes through the system and drains freely from both ends, preventing the moisture buildup that causes traditional cotton-padded casts to soften, develop odor, and break down.

Why Choose Delta Dry for a Waterproof Short Arm Cast?
True waterproof cast — not a removable cover. Water passes through and drains freely; no moisture trapped against skin
Two-piece system — water-resistant Delta stockinette + Delta Dry padding rolls for a familiar wrap-and-pad workflow
Swim, shower & bathe freely — patients maintain normal hygiene and activity levels during recovery
Compatible with standard fiberglass tape — no proprietary casting system required
Pediatric through adult sizing — kits sized for every patient from infant to large adult
BSN Essity brand — same manufacturer as AquaCast; trusted by orthopedic clinics worldwide
Delta Dry vs. AquaCast — Which Waterproof Cast System Is Right?
How does Delta Dry differ from AquaCast?
Both are BSN Essity waterproof cast systems, but they use different padding designs. Delta Dry uses a two-piece approach: a water-resistant stockinette liner applied first, followed by Delta Dry padding rolls. AquaCast uses a single pillow-type open-cell padding that replaces traditional cotton padding entirely. Both allow full water exposure — swimming, showering, and bathing. The choice is typically made by the clinician based on their preferred workflow and the patient’s anatomy.
Indications — Who Needs a Waterproof Short Arm Cast?
Active patients — children, swimmers, athletes — who cannot avoid water exposure during recovery
How to Apply Delta Dry Waterproof Short Arm Cast
Apply Delta Stocking — slip the water-resistant stockinette over the hand and up the forearm
Apply Delta Dry Padding — wrap the waterproof padding rolls smoothly from hand to below the elbow, overlapping each layer by 50%
Apply Fiberglass Cast Tape — wrap over the Delta Dry padding to complete the waterproof short arm cast
Must be applied by a trained orthopedic technician, physician, or casting staff. Bring this kit to your clinical appointment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I swim and shower with a Delta Dry waterproof short arm cast?
Yes. Delta Dry uses a water-resistant stockinette and waterproof padding rolls that allow water to pass through and drain freely from both ends of the cast. Unlike traditional cotton-padded casts that trap moisture and break down when wet, Delta Dry is designed for full water exposure — swimming, showering, and bathing are all permitted once the cast is properly applied by a clinician.
What is included in the Delta Dry Short Arm Cast Kit?
Each kit includes Delta Dry waterproof padding rolls, a Delta water-resistant stockinette, and fiberglass casting tape — all sized for the selected patient size. The clinician applies all components at the appointment. No additional padding, stockinette, or tape is needed.
What is the difference between a short arm cast and a long arm cast?
A short arm cast extends from the hand to just below the elbow, immobilizing the wrist and forearm. A long arm cast extends to the upper arm and also immobilizes the elbow. Short arm casts are used for wrist and distal forearm injuries such as Colles’ fractures, Smith’s fractures, and carpal bone injuries. Long arm casts are used when elbow immobilization is also required.
Does my doctor apply the Delta Dry kit, or can I do it myself?
Delta Dry must be applied by a trained orthopedic technician, physician, or casting staff. The kit is purchased by the patient and brought to the clinical appointment, where the clinician applies the stockinette, padding, and fiberglass tape. Self-application is not recommended and may result in improper fit or injury.
Is this kit FSA or HSA eligible?
Delta Dry waterproof cast kits are generally FSA/HSA eligible when prescribed by a physician. Eligibility depends on your specific plan administrator — we recommend confirming with your FSA/HSA provider before purchase. OrthoTape is an authorized distributor of Delta Dry (BSN Essity) products.

My hand broke in a car accident less than a week before leaving on a 2 week dream vacation to Thailand. I was feeling so bummed that I'd have to wear a cast and would not be able to swim in those warm and tropical waters, until I found this Delta Dry waterproof cast. I was nervous to first dive into the water but I did and ended up going swimming everyday I was near the ocean. This cast held up beautifully and it took between 30 minutes and an hour to fully dry. I highly recommend it for anyone who doesn't want a cast to slow them down in life.

I broke my arm when I wrecked my mountain bike. I just got home for the summer and couldn't swim with my kids. I ordered the delta dry, had the casting guys cut off my old cast and re-do it with the delta dry. I can swim with my kids and even swim laps to keep the muscles in my injured arm from having so much atrophy. Hopefully it will speed up my return to my normal activities. It's also nice to be able to shower and scrub into the cast for hygiene.

Great cast!
This was such a good buy! I had planned on buying cast covers for a regular cast and after talking to our doctor decided it would be worth it to order this and it was! There was a $15 difference between this and what I would have spent on cast covers but with this my daughter can shower & swim without the hassle of bags, tape, or cast covers. Already referred a friend whose daughter unfortunately broke her wrist.

We ordered this for my son which he broke his arm, first time, playing baseball, at the first part of summer. Bummer. Now with this he can still enjoy his days of swimming. He was excited that he got to pick what color/or pattern he wanted, along with the casttattoos (baseball, he picked) they have been great! Also they are so more affordable than the ones you get from the clinic/hospitals.

I was told by a friend about Delta Dry and it was the best choice we could have made. The Ortho group had no problems using the product and my son is loving it. The first thing he said was, mom this cast is so much cooler. The other was so hot! Taking showers is also wonderful. The cast dries completely after a shower in about 20 minutes. Excellent decision ever!!!

Ortho Neal waterproof cast material
This stuff is Awesome! Showers, baths, swimming. You can do it all. Gone are the days of stinky casts. Hop in the shower, do your normal thing. Get out, towel dry excess water. Then you can air dry, use a fan, or a hair dryer on cool, and I use warm in winter.I also had my arm out car window a little, felt amazing.May stay a little damp in humid weather, try do give it a day in between getting wet, I cover it somedays to keep it dry. Best investment I made.

This Was Fantastic - Would Order Again
This material and service was great, will definitely order again!
Not only can you swim and sweat, but its less itchy!
My son was devistated to break his arm and not be able to go swimming over the summer. But once he was switched from a long cast to a short cast and the doctor said he could have a waterproof one, we were ready with this product. Not only did it save our summer by allowing him to swim, he was also able to clean his cast out in the bath after an especially hot and sweaty soccer practice. However, drying the cast out is a pain in the butt.
But most importantly to me, he complained about being itchy far less and his skin looked completely clean and normal once the cast was removed, other than being pale. When his non-waterproof long cast was removed he had a nasty rash that wasnt medically concerning but made him very itchy and took a few days to clear.
