DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite Knee Brace for Patella Maltracking, Subluxation & Anterior Knee Pain

The DonJoy Tru-Pull® Lite Knee Brace is a lightweight, low-profile patella stabilizing knee brace designed for patients with mild to moderate patellar subluxation, kneecap maltracking, patellofemoral pain, patellar instability, and related anterior knee symptoms. Unlike a basic compression sleeve or patella tendon strap, the Tru-Pull Lite uses a specialized bifurcated Y-strap and dual-durometer patella buttress to apply a consistent corrective force along the lateral edge of the kneecap. Independent thigh and calf anchors help resist brace rotation, while removable flexible hinges provide additional medial and lateral knee support.

Left or Right Knee Selection Is Required

The DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite is manufactured in separate Left and Right versions. It is not a universal-side brace. Choose Left when treating the left knee. Choose Right when treating the right knee. Then select the size that matches your thigh, knee-center, and calf measurements.

Who Is the DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite Designed For?

The Tru-Pull Lite may be prescribed or recommended for patients experiencing kneecap instability, abnormal patellar movement, or anterior knee pain related to patellofemoral dysfunction:

  • Mild to moderate lateral patellar subluxation
  • Patellar maltracking or tracking disorder
  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome
  • Patellar instability following dislocation or subluxation
  • Patellar arthritis or chondromalacia-related symptoms
  • Mild medial or lateral knee instability
  • Support following arthroscopic meniscectomy, when permitted by the treating clinician
  • Mild generalized knee instability

This Is Primarily a Patella-Control Brace. The Tru-Pull Lite is intended primarily for kneecap alignment and mild medial/lateral support. It is not a rigid ACL reconstruction brace, post-operative range-of-motion brace, or compartment-unloading osteoarthritis brace.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Bifurcated Y-Strap: Applies a controlled counterbalancing force to help guide the patella toward improved alignment.
  • Dual-Durometer Patella Buttress: Interfaces directly with the lateral edge of the kneecap to provide a consistent corrective force.
  • Independent Thigh and Calf Anchors: Help prevent the brace from rotating or migrating during movement.
  • Removable Flexible Hinges: Provide supplemental medial and lateral stability; may be removed from hinge pockets when clinically appropriate.
  • Low-Profile Design: Short, lightweight construction is easier to wear beneath many types of clothing.
  • Breathable Moisture-Wicking Fabric: Helps manage heat and moisture during extended wear.
  • Antimicrobial-Treated Material: Helps control odor within the brace fabric.
  • Adjustable Strap Tension: Allows the amount of corrective patella pull to be adjusted for comfort and support.
  • Left and Right Configurations: Side-specific construction positions the corrective system properly for the affected knee.
  • Not Made with Natural Rubber Latex.

How to Apply the DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite Knee Brace

DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite How to Apply — 6-Step Application Instructions

  1. Before Using the Device: Please read the following instructions completely and carefully. Correct application is vital to the proper function of the device.
  2. Position the Brace: While seated or lying down with your knee slightly bent, position the brace so the patella opening surrounds your kneecap and the buttress (patella pad) is centered below the kneecap.
  3. Secure the Lower Strap: Wrap the lower strap around the calf and fasten it securely. The brace should feel snug but comfortable.
  4. Apply the Y-Strap: Grasp the end of the Y-strap and pull it across the front of the knee, up and around to the opposite side. For additional pull on the patella, you can pull both straps at the same time. The desired amount of pull on the patella can be regulated by the amount of tension you apply.
  5. Adjust the Patella Buttress: Straighten each strap and secure it by attaching it back to itself. This will allow the buttress to come in direct contact with the zonal edge of the patella.
  6. Final Adjustment: Hinges can be removed from their strap casing by sliding them through the slot on the inside portion of the hinge casing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What knee conditions is the DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite designed for?

The DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite is intended for mild to moderate patellar subluxation, lateral patellar maltracking, patellofemoral pain syndrome, patellar arthritis, mild medial or lateral knee instability, support following arthroscopic meniscectomy, and mild generalized knee instability. It is primarily a patella-control brace, not a rigid ACL, post-operative ROM, or OA unloader brace.

How do I choose the correct DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite size and side?

Select Left for the left knee or Right for the right knee — this is not a universal brace. Measure your thigh circumference 6 inches above the center of the kneecap, around the knee center, and your calf 6 inches below the kneecap. Compare all three measurements to the size chart. If measurements fall between sizes or indicate different sizes, choose the larger size.

How does the Tru-Pull Lite Y-strap and patella buttress work?

The bifurcated Y-strap applies a controlled counterbalancing force to help guide the patella toward improved alignment. The dual-durometer buttress sits against the lateral edge of the kneecap and provides a consistent corrective contact point as the knee bends and straightens. Strap tension can be increased or decreased to adjust the amount of patella control.

How do I wash and care for the DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite?

Wash the patella buttress with soap and water at a maximum of 107°F (approximately 30°C / 86°F) as needed to restore its tacky surface. T-dry flat. Do not machine wash or dry. Do not expose the brace to excessive heat. Inspect straps, fabric, closures, and hinge pockets before each use. Do not use if damaged.

Can the Tru-Pull Lite be used after arthroscopic meniscectomy or during exercise?

The manufacturer lists support following arthroscopic meniscectomy among the product's indications. Whether it is appropriate during rehabilitation, walking, exercise, or sports depends on the surgical procedure, stage of recovery, symptoms, and clinician protocol. Obtain clearance from your surgeon or physical therapist before returning to strenuous activity.

Is the DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite FSA/HSA eligible and what HCPCS code applies?

The DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite is generally eligible for purchase using FSA or HSA funds when used to treat a medical condition. The commonly associated HCPCS code is L1812. Plan rules vary, and an HCPCS code does not guarantee insurance reimbursement. Confirm eligibility and documentation requirements with your plan administrator or insurer.

What is the warranty on the DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite?

DJO, LLC will repair or replace all or part of the unit and its accessories for material or workmanship defects for a period of six months from the date of sale.
