OrthoH2O is not a cast cover. It is the actual waterproof cast material used to build a waterproof cast from the ground up. This complete waterproof short leg cast kit includes a water-resistant tubular stockinette and fiberglass casting tape — everything your doctor or cast technician needs to apply a true swim cast for the foot and ankle (also called a fiberglass waterproof cast system).
OrthoH2O is a hypoallergenic, thick synthetic waterproof cast stockinette manufactured from Aerosliver yarn — skin-irritation-free and water-repellent. Quick-Wick Technology allows exposure to wet conditions, and its circular-knitted fiber drains water effortlessly. OrthoH2O contains silver (Ag), an antimicrobial ion that helps prevent bacterial growth and infections. With OrthoH2O, patients can shower, bathe, and participate in water-related activities without covering their casts.

How to Apply Your Waterproof Short Leg Cast
- OrthoH2O is a water-resistant tubular stockinette — slip onto the limb and double up for proper thickness.
- Provide your doctor with the video instructions above so they know how to properly apply your waterproof cast.
- Never use any other materials than what is provided with this kit.
- Promise your doctor you will be compliant in caring for your waterproof cast and drying it after each wet exposure.
- A hair dryer on a low setting can help the cast dry in 30 minutes or less.
The stockinette is doubled up so it is the proper thickness — see the diagram below.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I shower, swim, or bathe with a waterproof short leg cast?
Yes. OrthoH2O is designed for full water exposure — showers, baths, pools, and ocean water. After each wet exposure, use a hair dryer on a low setting to dry the cast in 30 minutes or less. Always flush with clean water after salt water or chlorine exposure.
How long does a waterproof short leg cast take to dry after getting wet?
The outside of the cast will be dry to the touch in 30–60 minutes. The inside takes 12–24 hours to fully dry. Using a hair dryer on a low or cool setting will significantly speed up the drying process.
To clean: use gentle soap and water. For odor: soak the cast in a 5-gallon bucket or bathtub. Add 1 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 cup rubbing alcohol to help kill bacteria. Soak for 5 minutes only, then rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
What is the difference between OrthoH2O, AquaCast, and Delta Dry?
OrthoH2O — easy one-piece design with more breathability; does not pool water at the heel or ankle. Casting tape is included. AquaCast — familiar to many doctors but tends to bunch up under the cast and is more difficult to apply. Delta Dry — lightweight and fast-drying but tends to tear, slip, and slide under the cast.
Will my doctor apply the OrthoH2O waterproof cast for me?
It depends on the doctor. Ask your orthopedic provider and let them know you will be fully compliant with all care instructions. You can bring the kit to your appointment or have us ship it directly to their office. We are compiling a list of doctors who work with OrthoH2O — contact us if you find one.

The ortho tape company is amazing. I’ve been using them for several years and I won’t go anywhere else.Ortho H2O is an amazing product. It allows you to shower bathe swim when it’s very warm out. It’ll dry on its own. If it’s not too warm just use a hairdryer on low makes casting easy definitely my go to product. I prefer this to any of the other name brands again or ortho tape is the best company around.

My son (6 years old)had a long arm put on for 1 month and it was torture especially in the august California heat. When we found out he was getting a short arm after 4 weeks I ordered this in hopes it would help him being able to breath more in the cast, and not feel so overwhelmed.
It did! He even lets me wash his hand now without crying!! We don’t fully submerge it, but we do wash around the areas with ease.

It worked awesome just as long as you put it on and then you spray the water on it. It’s easy to apply. I had to wear mine for two months. It never started smelling. It’s easy to wash it dried really fast. This product is worth every penny.

My son broke his thumb right before a family beach getaway. We were so glad to find this waterproof cast. He was able to play in the bay like normal, including swimming across. It took a few hours to dry completely, but it wasn’t uncomfortable while wet. This definitely made having a cast on at the end of Summer less of a bummer.

I bought this and took it to my doctor. It took some convincing but she agreed to use the liner. I had already had the regularly-lined cast for a week and it was already really smelly and itchy. Then I switched to this liner. I had the ortho-tape liner on for 4 weeks in the middle of summer during which I exercised every day (think SWEAT) but the liner didn't smell, was rarely itchy, and dried very quickly!

My 3 year old broke his arm and the cast they put on him was a nightmare. The first couple days wearing the hospital cast I knew there had to be something better. I did some searching and came across the waterproof cast. I ordered it and took it to his doctor and asked to put it on. At first they said “NO” but another doctor there heard what I wanted and she has been on the hospital for awhile now to order a waterproof cast and she was wanting to see how they did, so she replaced the old cast with the one I ordered. I can’t wait to show them how great it is. My son has be swimming, fishing ( which leads to getting muddy) and the cast has been awesome. No stressing about getting it wet or dirty. We can just rinse it off!!

I love the way that NEAL cast stockinette allows me to continue swimming during the very warm pre-Summer temperatures in Florida. I had my dual short leg walking casts (for stress fractures in the feet) made with this remarkable material. I can swim with no problems - I can't believe I'm still casted but in the pool. After exiting the pool, I sit next to the pool and let the water drain out of the casts, which takes about 45 minutes. The NEAL lining feels fully dry in about five hours after exiting the pool without the use of a shop vac or hair dryer to speed up the process, probably less time when not inside in air conditioning. In the application of the cast I was surprised to see the NEAL stockinette doesn't readily recover it's original shape if stretched wider than necessary. That small detail will be remembered in the future. Also, with knowing the leg hairs might get yanked out by the resin on the cast tape, I clipped all the leg/foot hairs up to the knee to avoid this issue.

My wife really wanted our daughter to have a water proof cast since she broke her arm beginning of summer. This was a great option and priced well. Daughter has not complained at all about the cast except for standard itching every once in a while. She actually just took a shower in it without issue. It does take some time to dry after. We did have problems with the first application of the cast as it didn't want to adhere correctly and was essentially falling apart. Customer service was fantastic and we received a replacement quickly. No problems with the second application so far. I would recommend considering the dry application method.

I ordered the adult large that comes with two rolls of 2” and one roll of 3”. One of the 2” rolls was defective (the doctor could not get it to stick). Fortunately, the other 2” and the 3” roll worked well so the arm was able to be casted.
