Description

EXOS Hand-Based Ulnar Gutter Brace - Heat-Moldable Splint for 4th and 5th Metacarpals

The EXOS Hand-Based Ulnar Gutter Brace (Enovis / DJO, 125 series) is a custom-fit, thermoformable splint designed to stabilize injuries involving the fourth and fifth metacarpals, their MCP joints, and the ring and little fingers, as prescribed by a healthcare professional. Its compact hand-based shape allows free movement at the wrist, subject to clinical instructions.

Black only. Select the affected left or right hand and sizes XS through XL. Adjustable hook-and-loop straps secure the brace; this 125-series model does not use a BOA dial.

Common Uses (as Prescribed)

  • Support for selected 4th and 5th metacarpal fractures (ring- and little-finger side of the hand)
  • Stabilization of the corresponding 4th/5th MCP joints and phalanges
  • Preoperative, postoperative, and post-traumatic stabilization when a clinician determines this hand-based design is appropriate
  • Cases where finger and metacarpal support is needed while preserving wrist range of motion, as directed

A hand-based brace is not interchangeable with a wrist-spanning fracture brace. Match the exact model to the treatment plan prescribed by your medical provider.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Thermoformable and reformable: heat-molded to the patient's hand by a qualified healthcare professional
  • Ulnar gutter support: shaped for the ring- and little-finger side of the hand; facilitates greater than 70° flexion positioning at the 4th and 5th MCP joints during fitting
  • Hand-based profile: maintains free wrist movement where permitted by the treatment plan
  • Adjustable hook-and-loop straps: detachable strapping helps adjust the fit to the hand and fingers
  • Trimmable by a clinician: as directed by the physician for required range of motion
  • Washable material: waterproof brace design; clean and thoroughly dry both skin and brace after exposure to water
  • Latex information: not made with natural rubber latex, according to Enovis

Heating, Fitting and Application - Important

Professional heat molding is required for proper application. This is not a conventional ready-to-wear cloth splint. Enovis instructs that the brace be fitted by a qualified healthcare professional.

Manufacturer Fitting Detail EXOS Hand-Based Ulnar Gutter Brace
Correct heating temperature 200°F (93°C) in an EXOS oven
Heating time Approximately 5 minutes or until pliable; do not apply while too hot
Maximum permitted heat Do not exceed 212°F (100°C)
Application Never heat on the body. Fit to dry skin, align to the palm, secure hook-and-loop straps and mold as instructed.

Before heating: Verify the exact brace model, size, side and overall condition. Do not overtighten the straps; excess pressure can injure fragile or compromised skin.

Read the official Enovis Hand-Based Ulnar Gutter Brace Instructions for Use (PDF). You can also review our EXOS Brace Fitting and Heating Guide; any alternate water-bath method described there is not an Enovis-validated heating protocol.

EXOS return restriction: Once an EXOS brace has been heated, molded, worn, or altered, it is not eligible for return. Check the item before fitting. Review OrthoTape's return policy for unused-item eligibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the EXOS Hand-Based Ulnar Gutter Brace used for?

It is designed to help stabilize the 4th and 5th metacarpals, the corresponding MCP joints, and the ring and little fingers when prescribed by a clinician, including selected fractures of those bones.

Does this ulnar gutter brace have a BOA dial?

No. The EXOS 125-series Hand-Based Ulnar Gutter Brace uses adjustable hook-and-loop straps. The separate EXOS Boxer's Fracture Brace has a BOA closure.

Does this brace need to be heated before wearing?

Yes. Enovis directs qualified healthcare professionals to heat the brace in an EXOS oven at 200°F (93°C) for approximately 5 minutes or until pliable, then shape it to the patient's hand. Never heat it on the body or above 212°F (100°C).

How do I choose the correct size and side?

Measure hand circumference around the knuckles, excluding the thumb. Match the measurement to the size chart (XS through XL), and choose LEFT or RIGHT for the affected hand. Have a qualified healthcare professional confirm the fit.

Can I move my wrist while wearing the hand-based brace?

The hand-based design is intended to leave the wrist free to move, unlike longer forearm-spanning braces. Follow your healthcare professional's prescribed movement restrictions.

Is this brace washable or suitable for water exposure?

Enovis describes EXOS braces as waterproof and washable. If the brace or skin gets wet, clean and dry both thoroughly. Never leave damp skin enclosed under the brace.

Can I return an EXOS brace after molding it?

No. OrthoTape does not accept EXOS braces for return after they have been heated, molded, worn, or altered. Check the model, size, and side before fitting and review the return policy for unused items.
