Description

EXOS Short Thumb Spica II with BOA - Hand-Based, Heat-Moldable Thumb Brace

The Short Thumb Spica II (STS II) from EXOS by Enovis/DJO is a low-profile, thermoformable thumb support designed to stabilize the thumb's first metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint. Its hand-based construction supports the thumb without extending up the forearm like a long thumb spica brace.

Features a BOA dial adjustment, adjustable thumb strap, and openings near the thumb base and palmar crease. Available in black, sizes XXS-XL, for left or right hand. A trained healthcare professional should heat-mold and fit the brace.

Common Uses (as Prescribed)

  • Stabilization of the thumb's first MCP joint
  • Support during preoperative or postoperative care
  • Support following selected thumb injuries or trauma
  • Support for certain degenerative thumb-joint conditions, as directed by a clinician

Important: Select a brace based on your diagnosis and the exact type prescribed. This short, hand-based model is not interchangeable with an EXOS wrist-and-thumb fracture brace.

Features & Benefits

  • Heat-moldable construction: thermoforms around the hand when fitted by a qualified professional.
  • BOA® Fit System: permits micro-adjustments to circumferential compression.
  • Adjustable thumb strap: customizable fit across the thumb's web space.
  • Hand-based design: stabilizes the thumb MCP joint while leaving more of the wrist uncovered.
  • Open thumb base and palmar crease: designed to accommodate functional movement where clinically appropriate.
  • Material: not made with natural rubber latex, according to Enovis.

Heating & Application - Professional Fitting Required

This brace is not ready to wear as a molded orthosis straight from the package. A qualified healthcare professional should heat and mold it to the patient's hand and thumb. Do not judge final fit before molding.

Requirement Enovis Instruction
Specified heating temperature 200°F (93°C)
EXOS oven heating time Approximately 3 minutes, or until pliable
Maximum temperature Never exceed 212°F (100°C)
Safety Never heat while worn; confirm it is not too hot before application. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Before heating: check the received model, size, side, condition and manufacturer's instructions.

Read EXOS Short Thumb Spica II official Instructions for Use (PDF). Also see our EXOS Brace Fitting & Heating Guide; it discusses a separate OrthoTape water-bath method that is not an Enovis-validated heating procedure.

EXOS Return Restriction: Once an EXOS brace has been heated, molded, worn, or altered, it is not eligible for return. Please inspect the model, size and side before fitting. Unused-product eligibility is governed by OrthoTape's return policy.

These are different supports. Select the model recommended by your clinician; a short thumb brace is not a substitute for a fracture brace when wrist immobilization is required.

Does this EXOS thumb brace need to be heated?

Yes. It is thermoformable and requires professional fitting. The manufacturer specifies 200°F (93°C) in an EXOS oven for approximately three minutes or until pliable. Never heat it while worn or above 212°F (100°C).

How do I select the correct size and side?

Measure the circumference of the hand around the knuckles, excluding the thumb, and match it to the manufacturer size chart. Choose Left or Right for the affected hand. A qualified healthcare professional should verify fit.

Can this thumb brace be returned after heat molding?

No. Under OrthoTape's EXOS policy, a brace that has been heated, molded, worn or altered cannot be returned. Verify size and side before heating, and review the store's return policy for eligible unused products.

How is this model different from the EXOS Long Thumb Spica II?

The Short Thumb Spica II is hand-based and primarily stabilizes the thumb MCP joint. The Long Thumb Spica II extends along the wrist and forearm to provide additional wrist/forearm control. Choose the model prescribed by your clinician.
